MSc thesis project proposal

Current sensing in power electronics

Current sensing is crucial in power electronics as it is necessary for control, fault detection, current balancing, and so on. Most current sensors nowadays are based on external components and are integrated with the power switches on the PCB level, leading to high system cost and size. In this project, we will explore the possibility of current sensing without the use of an extra sensing element, which can take current sensing in power electronics to the next level.

Assignment

The following project activities are expected:

·         Comprehensive literature study

·         System-level behaviour model

·         Transistor-level circuit design

·         A tapeout is highly encouraged

·         Thesis writing
