MSc thesis project proposal

Biodegradable microfabricated Organ-on-chip platform for PERFUSED ORGANOIDS

OoC systems are microfluidic cell culture devices that recapitulate in vivo-like microenvi-ronments to support the expression of properties and functions of human tissues and organs. Such microphysiological systems represent more realistic models than existing in vitro cell cultures, which should enhance pre-clinical screening of the effect of drugs and other compounds on the human body. This project focuses on the development of a biodegradable microfabricated platform for perfused organoids.

It will be performed in close collaboration with biologists from the Netherlands Organ-on-Chip Initiative (NOCI).

Assignment

The student will perform the assignment at ECTM:

  • Duration: 9-12 months
  • Location: ECTM and EKL facilities at TU Delft

The expected activities

  • Synthesis and characterization of biodegradable material to be used in the OoC platform
  • Design and fabrication of the biodegradable microfabricated platform for perfused organoids
  • In vitro study with brain organoids and blood vessel cells in a proof a concept study

Requirements

You are an ambitious student looking for a challenging thesis project on microfabrication of Organs-on-Chip for medical applications. You have a biomedical engineering, material science, mechanical or microelectronics background. Good communication skills in English and a pro-active attitude are expected.
